Maybe you didn't look down. Or you thought
you could run across the tightrope without
looking back. I smiled slyly, safe, on the other
side, just high enough to be dizzy. Still, you seemed
so sure. Your reached for me and my body ran.
Now we see the wire. When you turn,
you falter, you break our eyeline, I start
to tremble, my toes slip and curl, and you
are so far away. Then I see your harness
and wonder why you didn't get one for me.
Catch me or don't, but know the ledge
is lost and I cannot turn back.
