Todi Cathedral

Outside Todi, the cathedral looms large,
like a fat hen hovering over her hatch,
fluffed out with maternal fear. As though
she knows someone is coming to steal,
again, what was so briefly hers. Only
her mouth to defend what they will take,
the men with the grabbing gloves. The hollow,
empty nest hums hymns to mourn the missing.
