Australia is an afternoon cat, coiled
or stretched at a whim, seemingly
sleeping yet folding a velvet ear.
She is waiting, unrushed, enjoying
her own beauty, expecting you
to appreciate and feed her but
anticipating the inevitable revolt:
earthquakes, mudslides, droughts
and floods, all the ways Nature takes
back overpoured beauty. She
will run, evolve, but not until
the sun slips out of her dream.
