Souvenirs

One of everything, one more little trinket
or tile, figurine, silver turtle pillbox,
to remember, to treasure the day. I was
six or seven when I realized I had already
lost so many specifics, that one day I
wouldn't remember the name of my first
grade teacher, much less the boy sitting
behind me. Somewhere, cities became more
important than people, or most cities became
more important than most people. So, in
Toledo I bought small silver things
that will make me smile, and now
I spread them out to show you
my life.
