Byron Bay, Cinque Terre

Byron swam the bay, club foot
propelling him through warm
Italian waters.  He climbed
where I stand, likely shorter
and determined not to limp.
His business was beauty, words
to will women astray.
But battle always called,
the need to ride through fire
and prove the poems
were prettier than pain.
