Torino II

The blue today is the purest pastel,
clouds blend like white paint
to dim the electricity of Torino
this October afternoon. I sip
my second cappuccino and hope
no cigarettes flavor the air.  Short,
elegant men shop for accessories.
There is money here, chandelier
cafes and comfort, a complete lack
of urgency.  Men in lavender sweaters
and scarves read i giornali and pose.
Even the tourists are calm here,
there are trains every hour, and
it hasn't rained in days. There is not
so much to see that you fear missing
anything. Only a spot of gelato
on perfectly stressed jeans
could spoil a day in Torino.
